Abstract
To control snails in vegetable fields, a comprehensive approach can be adopted: (1) Clean the fields. Promptly clear ditches and improve drainage to remove standing water, eliminate weeds, and ensure that the bed surfaces remain dry, thereby disrupting the snails’ habitats and egg-laying sites. (2) Manual removal. Pile up vegetable leaves, semi-dry weeds, and other materials on the vegetable beds, then collect and kill the snails that gather on these piles early in the morning. On sunny mornings, you can also manually catch snails that have settled on vegetable stems and leaves. (3) Apply quicklime. After the soil surface of the vegetable beds has dried, sprinkle quicklime around the perimeter at a rate of 5–10 kilograms per mu. Once snails come into contact with the quicklime, they will lose moisture and die. (4) Chemical control. Apply 600–750 grams of 6% polyoxin·methomyl granules per mu, evenly spreading them across the field in the evening.
